UPDATE: SPD reports the shooting in Cal Anderson appears to have involved a marijuana deal gone bad and that the 29-year-old victim reportedly left the scene in a ride share vehicle.
Just after 10:30 AM , Seattle Police was called to Cal Anderson after witness reports of gunfire in the park, a SUV seen speeding away to the south on Nagle Place, and a person believed to have been hit in the gunfire fleeing the area near the basketball court.
SPD posted a brief update on the situation and said more details would follow when available.
Overnight, a 53-year-old man was reportedly critically wounded in a shooting in an alley near 15th Ave and Cherry.
UPDATE 12/23/2021: This SPD brief on the incident provides a few more details about how the situation played out:
On 12-22-2021 at 1035 hours, a male victim was hanging out in a car with a known acquaintance whom he has purchased marijuana from in the past. While in a vehicle, the victim opened his wallet to determine if he had enough money to purchase more marijuana. At about the same time, the suspect (dealer) mentioned to the victim the vehicle they were in was stolen. All parties exited the vehicle. While outside, the suspect made comments to the victim making him believe he was about to get robbed. The victim fled on foot and was shot at approximately 3 times. He continued to flee on foot, obtained an UBER and fled the scene into the West Precinct. There he recognized he had been shot and called 911. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening wound. An area check and evidence search was conducted with limited results. Notifications were made.

Got a question for the pot smokers since I’m not one: Why buy pot from someone on the street these days? Is it cheaper than the pot sold legally in the stores? Stronger? Thanks.
dirt cheap
I had exactly the same question. Why are people getting shot over this?
Come hang around Nagle after 7:00 PM and all your questions will be answered.
Huge state taxes on pot make the illegal stuff half the cost or less. Pot shops are for rich techies.
