It’s taken two years and a season and a half, but The Witcher Season 2 finally shows the beginning of a family. Episode 6, “Dear Friend”, revolves around Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) reuniting with her lover bound by destiny, Geralt (Henry Cavill), and meeting Ciri (Freya Allan) for the first time. As composed as this sorceress and witcher always are, their meeting in the Temple of Melitele is anything but.

“I loved doing the scene where I walk in and they’re kissing,” Allan told Decider. “That was just so funny because them as actors were having a really sort of serious moment. It’s very intense within their characters. But then, for Ciri, it was really fun getting to play on the idea of that moment where you catch someone that you don’t want to see kissing, and you’re like ‘Oh my God, sorry! I’m going to leave now.'”

Allan especially appreciated the scene because it allowed her to show off a different side of her character. Typically, Ciri is one of the most somber and conflicted characters in this universe, a young princess who has the weight of her kingdom and the fate of The Continent on her shoulders. But for a brief moment in Episode 6, she’s allowed to act like an actual teenager.

“It’s also always a relief when other people are having the intense thing and you’re just having to be the light in it, the light in the scene,” Allan said.

That levity carried from Yennefer and Geralt’s reunion to the trio’s very first shared meal. “It was always fun when we three were playing on the idea that she can clearly tell that something was going on between the two of them, or has gone on, or whatever,” Allan said. “I think playing on that sort of very childlike element to the character, that really brings out the child in Ciri. I loved getting to like play the response to that.”
