Far-right media personality Alex Jones and conservative attorney Cleta Mitchell both moved on Monday to quash subpoenas from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, raising constitutional objections.

Mitchell, who advised former President Donald Trump as he sought to challenge the results of the 2020 election, filed a motion in federal court in D.C. seeking to block a subpoena for phone and text records during the postelection period. Mitchell’s attorney, John Rowley, wrote that Mitchell uses that cellphone to communicate with clients and for personal interactions and that the demand from the committee “improperly intrudes upon Ms. Mitchell’s work as an attorney and violates the protections and privileges she has as an American citizen.
