Massachusetts congresswomen Katherine Clark, Ayanna Pressley advocate for Build Back Better Act
Two members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation are making the case for President Joe Biden's Build Back Better bill, which is currently in limbo.
U.S. representatives Katherine Clark (5th District) and Ayanna Pressley (7th District) promoted Biden's agenda Monday during their tour of a new food pantry opened by the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee.
The $2 trillion Build Back Better Act passed the House of Representatives, but the legislation is now stalled in the Senate with Sen. Joe Manchin, of West Virginia, now saying he will vote against the bill.
Both Clark and Pressley argued that the provisions in Biden's spending bill are vital to the nation's economic recovery.
"Build Back Better is not just a slogan, it is about meeting people where they are and saying: 'Let's build an economy that includes everybody,'" Clark said.
"This isn't social spending. These are investments in our people, in our families, in our communities," Pressley said.
The Massachusetts congresswomen said there are many time-sensitive provisions within the Build Back Better Act, including an extension on the enhanced child tax credit — which will expire if the bill is not passed and on Biden's desk by the end of the month.
