A special visitor arrived in Brookfield during the When Hope Calls Christmas special, and we’re not talking about Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin). Jack Thornton from When Calls the Heart also made an appearance in When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas, which aired Dec. 18 on GAC Family. The late mountie had a heartwarming reunion with his old friend Abigail and also shared a bittersweet message for his wife Elizabeth.

Jack’s appearance in When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas wasn’t a huge surprise to Hearties, who’ve known for months that his character would be returning for the show’s season 2 premiere. But few could have been prepared for the message he shared with Abigail during his brief visit, which occurred during a dream sequence.

Abigail – who had come to Brookfield to deliver a troubled boy named Roy to Lillian’s orphanage – was standing outside the town’s post office when she saw someone who she thought was Gabriel (RJ Hatanaka). But it was actually Jack, who died back in When Calls the Heart Season 5.

Jack asks Abigail to give Elizabeth a message

“I’ve missed you,” Jack says to a stunned Abigail, who then gives him a hug.

Jack says he doesn’t understand what’s happening, but he asks his old friend to deliver a message to his widow, who recently started a new relationship with Lucas Bouchard

“Abigail, can you get a message to Elizabeth for me?” he says. “Will you let her know that I’m happy she’s moving on with her life? And let her know that she’s doing a fine job with Little Jack and I could not be prouder of both of them.”

“Oh, Jack, there’s so much she wants to tell you,” Abigail replies.

Jack then asks Abigail to tell Elizabeth that “true love never dies.” He says goodbye before walking away and vanishing into thin air.

With this message, Jack seems to give his blessing to Elizabeth’s new romance. His words may also provide some closure to fans who are still mourning his character’s untimely death in a training accident.

Will we see Jack again on ‘When Hope Calls’ or ‘When Calls the Heart’?

Seeing Lissing don the red Mountie uniform one more time was certainly a treat for loyal When Calls the Heart fans. Is there any chance we might see him again, perhaps in another dream sequence where he delivers a message directly to Elizabeth, or in a flashback?

As of now, Lissing’s return as Jack seems like a one-off appearance. There have been no reports of him appearing in When Calls the Heart Season 9, which will air in 2022. And the actor himself has hinted that he has said goodbye to the Jack character for good.

“One last time in the red…,” Lissing captioned a photo of himself and Loughlin that he shared on Instagram on Dec. 19.

When Calls the Heart executive producer Brian Bird shared a similar message in a Dec. 18 tweet

“I’ve missed my Mate,” he wrote. “Loved seeing him in the red serge one last time.
