Aminu Mohammed came to Georgetown University with a great resume. Mohammed won the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year, twice! The Freshman showed his credentials in a big way in a 79-75 win over arch-rival Syracuse.
"If you look at the first half, I was a little bit down," Aminu told 7news sports anchor Olivia Garvey. "We went into the locker room and Coach Pat (Patrick Ewing) said it all. We have to come in with a sense of urgency, and we were down 10 and we came back and I figured I need to make some plays."
And making plays is exactly what Aminu did, scoring 20 points in the 2nd half.
Mohammed finished the game with a career high of 23 points and 13 rebounds in the victory. Following the win, Mohammed was named Big East Freshman of the Week.
"I always pride myself to just go out and play hard," Aminu said. " When I go out there and just play hard, everything else takes care of itself."
The Nigeria native had 20 points in the second half against Syracuse. Thus far, Mohammed has four double-doubles this season for the 6-4 Hoyas.
