A pedestrian died after being hit by a car on Wednesday evening in Port Orchard in the 1600 block of Bay Street, near the Blue Goose Tavern, according to Port Orchard police.

The female was hit and killed by a car at about 6:15 p.m. Multiple calls were made to 911, and the driver was on the scene when police responded, according to Port Orchard Police Chief Matt Brown.

A police officer responding to the incident began chest compressions and first aid immediately, but shortly after South Kitsap Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene, the woman was pronounced dead,

Washington State Patrol and the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the response, Brown said.

No criminal charges have been filed, Brown said, and at this time police do not suspect speed or impairment as factors in the collision, according to a press release by the police department.

Kitsap County Coroner Jeff Wallis did not provide the pedestrian's name or age, citing the process of notifying her next of kin.
