New Around the World: Ninho Scores Over 100 Million Streams From ‘Jefe’ Outside the U.S.

The French rapper scores eight debuts on the Global Excl. U.S. chart from his new album.

The Billboard Global 200 is decorated with holiday hits, as Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” ascends to the summit, leading eight carols in the top 20. Over on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, seasonal tunes still shine, while new music from a notable rising international act cuts through.

French rapper Ninho debuts eight songs on the Global Excl. U.S. tally, from his new album Jefe (released Dec. 3), with all 15 of the set’s tracks totaling 105.7 million streams outside the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 9, according to MRC Data.

Ninho has released five albums since 2016, with Jefe his first since the September 2020 inception of Billboard‘s global charts. He previously charted on Global Excl. U.S. with “N.I,” with fellow Frenchman Niska, for a week at No. 197 in November.

This week’s debuts are paced by the new album’s title track at No. 60 (13.7 million streams outside the U.S.), followed by “VVS,” “Sky Priority,” “Arme de Poing,” “Vérité,” “OG,” “Intro” and “No Life.”

“Jefe” is Ninho’s only song to crack the Global 200, debuting at No. 115.

Ninho’s eight charting songs combine to total 66.9 million streams outside the U.S. in the tracking week. Compared to 290,000 streams in the U.S., Ninho’s global consumption skewed more than 99% international, as he sports a prominent presence in his native France on multiple streaming services.

Eight titles on the Global Excl. U.S. chart make Ninho the most populous act on the survey this week. Eighteen other acts have charted as many or more songs simultaneously, including Adele, Drake, Taylor Swift (a record 24 on the Nov. 24 ranking) and other global superstars of their ilk. The elite list also includes a handful of primarily-non-English-language acts, from BTS and BLACKPINK (Korean) to Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Myke Towers (Spanish). Ninho is the first French-language act to ascend to these heights, and the first outside of Latin and Korean pop artists.
