Junior becomes ninth Cougar to accomplish the feat

HOUSTON – Houston Football's Marcus Jones has been recognized as consensus All-American, an honor bestowed upon student-athletes appearing on at least half of recognized lists. The junior is the ninth Cougar in program history to accomplish the feat.
 
Jones, who was recognized as a first-team returner by Sporting News on Tuesday, has also been tabbed first-team All-America by the Associated Press (defensive back) and Football Writers Association of America (return specialist). 
 
Houston student-athletes to reach consensus All-America status include Ed Oliver (2017-18), Andre Ware (1989), Jason Phillips (1988), Leonard Mitchell (1980), Wilson Whitley (1976), Elmo Wright (1970), Bill Bridges (1969) and Rich Sotter (1967).
 
The Enterprise, Alabama, native who has raked in several postseason accolades including being named the Paul Hornung Award winner, leads the nation in punt return touchdowns (2) while ranking second in kick return scores (2), second in interceptions (5) and sixth in passes defended per game (1.4).
