LAS CRUCES - A deputy who failed to yield to an oncoming moped driver, resulting in a crash, has been issued a ticket and is the subject of routine internal affairs investigation, Doña Ana County Sheriff Kim Stewart confirmed Tuesday.

The deputy, identified by a records clerk as Manny Maynes, hit a moped driver on Nov. 1 at about 5 a.m. Maynes was cited for failing to exercise due care.

Recently released dashcam video shows Maynes turning left at the Picacho Avenue and Motel Boulevard intersection just as 61-year-old Casey May was driving through.

As May and Maynes collided, May flipped onto the top of the DASO SUV before hitting the ground. An NMSP police investigation report said that May suffered a broken femur, as well as cuts on his forehead and bleeding from his torso.

May was flown to an El Paso hospital to be treated for his injuries.
