The Barton County landfill will be closed most of the day on Wednesday because of anticipated high winds. The county's solid waste director Phil Hathcock announced details about the closure during Tuesday's County Commission meeting.

“We’re going to open the landfill from seven to eight [a.m.] to allow commercial haulers to get in and dump, and then the landfill will close,” Hathcock said. “We’re trying to work with the commercial haulers so they can at least get their trucks empty real early in the morning.”

The landfill is expected to return to full operations on Thursday.
