Succession Season 3 came to a dramatic conclusion on Sunday, December 12 with a finale that shocked fans to the core.
The HBO show's last episode saw Logan Roy (Brian Cox) turning on his children Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Shiv (Sarah Snook) by choosing to let GoJo buy out Waystar Royco and leaving them in the lurch.
In the show's final moments it was also revealed that Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) had betrayed wife Shiv by siding with Logan, something that no one expected of the character before that moment.
Jon Brown, one of the show's writers, spoke with Newsweek ahead of its release on HBO, in which he gave a clue about Tom when he shared his hopes for the show in Season 4 and beyond.

Brown said he "would like to see Tom" take over the top spot from Logan, hinting at his betrayal while discussing the subject at the BFI London Film Festival in October, before Season 3 even began airing.
Admitting it was "really hard" and "difficult" to pick who he'd like to see become CEO of Waystar Royco, he said: "Honestly, if you want my honest answer it's not going to be very exciting, I sort of don't give a f**k who takes over because I sort of feel that's not really... I don't really care who takes over the company.
"I guess I care about Logan's affection and who he wants to share his light on, I really care about [these] three children, who you feel he cares about the most.
"That really gets me in the stomach if I think about my family, and you think about [how] your parent sees something in you that they don't see in your sibling, or the other way around. That's a killer right?"
Going on to reflect on the importance, or lack thereof, of who takes over from Logan he went on: "Who's the boss of BP? I mean who gives a f**k?"
Brown then teased Tom's future in the show, hinting at his shocking betrayal in the season finale: "If I was to answer it I'd say probably I would like to see Tom [take over] because I love him.
"And, in a way, you feel like all the kids are all f**ked and they can all sort of be fine but it's a hard one, and at some point we're going to have to figure it out but we don't know. Who knows!"
