Bayern Munich have confirmed young midfielder Jamal Musiala has broken his hand and is now a doubt for their final two games of 2021.

The 18-year-old started in the Bundesliga champions' victory over Mainz on Saturday, scoring in the 2-1 victory, but took a whack which could now see him sidelined until 2022.

Bayern have confirmed Musiala has suffered a fracture of the metacarpal bone, adding to what is already a lengthy list of absentees.

During Monday's press conference before the midweek clash with Stuttgart, head coach Julian Nagelsmann said: "It depends on the pain. He has a splint and could theoretically play, but it's a pain issue.

"We'll have to wait and see how he moves today [Monday]. We'll have to wait a few days and take another x-ray to see how to proceed with the treatment, whether it will be surgical or conservative."

Star midfielder Joshua Kimmich will play no part in Bayern's next two games as he is struggling with lung issues. Leon Goretzka and Corentin Tolisso are also doubtful to play on Tuesday, but Nagelsmann did deliver some more positive news on Marcel Sabitzer.

He added: "We treated Leon's knee a bit more to see how it reacts. We'll see to what extent it makes sense for him to travel with us to Stuttgart.

"Coco's been struggling a bit, so we'll decide whether he can train today. He doesn't have a structural injury."

On Sabitzer, he said: "He'll rejoin the squad today [Monday]. But it'll be purely down to the manpower situation if he travels with us."

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is also sidelined due to a coronavirus infection, while Josip Stanisic has a torn left thigh muscle.

Bayern have a lead of six points at the top of the Bundesliga, while they eventually drew Salzburg in Monday's shambles of a Champions League last 16 draw.
