When Fox officially launched its X-Men film franchise 21 years ago, it came as a huge shock and mystery to many fans why fan-favorite character Gambit got excluded from the pack. There have been rumors that he was set to appear as early as X2 and The Last Stand but creative plans for him were ultimately foiled. Sure, they tried introducing him years later in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and while Taylor Kitsch's take on the character earned him praises from the fandom, the underwhelming reception the film received was responsible for him not returning in the now-defunct "Foxverse".

An unproduced film centered on the beloved mutant was also in the works several years back which would have seen Channing Tatum in the titular role but the project was later canned. Now that Marvel Studios finally owns the rights to the character, it's already safe to say that Kevin Feige and his crew will finally be giving us a proper Gambit, along with other characters from the X-Men franchise.

The real question is, which actor should get the coveted role? Well, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City star Avan Jogia is already volunteering for the part and according to him, becoming part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on his list of priorities. In an interview with Looper, Jogia said: "I mean, anyone who's throwing cards. I like all the characters that are a little bit more fun. The muscle-bound, tights guy is not nearly as fun as Gambit or something ... I like characters with a little bit more personality and there's great characters in the MCU world that I'd love to pursue. I like Gambit."

To be fair, Jogia has the right amount of spunk and mystique (not "that" Mystique) that would make him a good live-action Gambit but at the end of the day, the ball is still on Marvel Studios' court. And it's not like Feige is in a hurry to bring the mutants to Earth-616 although rumors are swirling around that some of them will appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot is currently in development.
