One dead following head-on collision in Deland, police say

DeLand police assisted Volusia County Sheriff's Office in a deputy-involved shooting Sunday at 17-92 and Firehouse road.

DELAND, Fla. — Deland police are investigating what caused a crash that left one person dead and another with unknown injuries.

According to police, the head-on collision happened Saturday at 7:11 p.m. in Deland.

Police said a blue Lincoln sedan was heading westbound on East International Speedway Boulevard near Brunswick Lane.

For unknown reasons, the Lincoln crossed the median into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on with a white Toyota SUV.

According to police, the Lincoln rolled over and ejected its two occupants.

EMS personnel pronounced one of the occupants deceased at the scene.

The name of the deceased has not been released until the family is notified.

This is an ongoing investigation.
