College Basketball | Christian Parker scores 24 in Mount Union's victory at Ohio Northern

Mount Union sophomore Christian Parker scored 24 points on 11 of 13 shooting against Ohio Northern on Saturday.

ADA — Sophomore Christian Parker scored 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting to lead No. 17 Mount Union past Ohio Northern 72-56 on Saturday.

Parker also had 10 rebounds for the Purple Raiders (7-1, 2-1 Ohio Athletic Conference), who also won impressively on the road at John Carroll on Wednesday.

Senior Ethan Stanislawski added 19 points and seven assists as Mount Union never trailed in the game, but led by only two (51-49) with 10:38 remaining. The Purple Raiders went on a 15-2 run — Parker had seven of the points, including a basket with 3:20 to go — and weren't threatened the rest of the way. 

Chris Painter Jr. scored 12 points for Mount Union, which plays at Wilmington on Friday.

Brandon Waugh scored 15 points for Ohio Northern (5-3, 1-2), while CJ Napier had 10 points and eight rebounds. Michael Berner also reached double figures, scoring 10 points.

Shooting woes hurt Raider women

Mount Union shot just 22.6% from the field and never threatened Ohio Northern in a 59-35 loss on Saturday.

Isi Palamone scored a team-high 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting and also led the Purple Raiders (2-4, 1-2 OAC) with eight rebounds. The rest of the starting lineup, though, was a combined 6-for-26 shooting as Mount Union made just 12-of-53 shots.

The Purple Raiders were 3-for-24 on 3-pointers and in their last two games are a combined 8-for-47 from long range.

Ohio Northern (6-2, 2-1) was led by Molly Palecek and Kristen Luersman, who both came off the bench to score 10 points. The Polar Bears broke to a 16-3 lead after one quarter and Mount Union never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
