Conor Benn's perfect "one-two" knocks out Chris Algieri

Chris Algieri likely didn’t feel the punch that caused him to topple over like a tree in the wind. By the time he hit the canvas, courtesy of a perfect right hand from Conor Benn, Algieri was asleep.

Benn (20-0, 13 KOs) was sharp, precise, and ultimately brutal. His jab was on point - as were several punches to the body. Algieri (25-4, 9 KOs) came into the fight in great shape. He moved well in the first round, but Benn still cracked him with the body shots that had to hurt. Algieri landed a left hook on the aggressive Benn in round two, but the blow had no effect.

A combination of a Benn left hook to the hip - and an off-balance Algieri produced the first knockdown of the fight. Algieri got up quickly and connected with another left hook in round three, but Benn focused and consistent – continued to wear the New Yorker down with body and headshots.

Algieri tried to rally in round four, but Benn deftly dodged his blows, countering with crisp hooks. As Algieri lingered on the ropes, Benn jabbed and let fly with a straight right hand that landed flush on Algieri’s chin.
Referee Bob Williams took one look at the prone former junior welterweight champion and waved off the fight.

The time was 2:58 seconds into round four.

Benn’s improvement is obvious. An impressive victory.
