Cougars second in Texas with eight total honorees
HOUSTON – Eight Houston Football student-athletes have been named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football 2021 postseason All-Texas College team, tied for second among all programs in the Lone Star State, the publication announced Wednesday.
Marcus Jones, a first-team cornerback and returner, is the only player listed twice on the list. Houston running back Alton McCaskill was tabbed Offensive Freshman of the Year while Jones was recognized as the state's top special teams' player.
Cougar wide receiver Nathaniel Dell and offensive lineman Patrick Paul were named first-team all-state offensively while defensive lineman Logan Hall, defensive back Gervarrius Owens and Jones (defensive back/returner) were recognized on defense and special teams.
Quarterback Clayton Tune earned second-team all-state honors alongside offensive lineman Kody Russey and defensive lineman David Anenih.
The teams are split into a first and second team with 11 players selected on each side of the ball. Texas A&M led the way with nine players named to the list, including three on the first-team defensive unit. UTSA and Houston were tied in second with eight players each.
2021 BIRMINGHAM BOWL
No. 21/21 Houston (11-2) faces off against Auburn (6-6) in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl at 11 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Dec. 28, from the newly-opened Protective Stadium.
