In this episode of Subtle Desi Traits, host Ankita Bharadwaj talks to one of Wisconsin’s most prominent South Asian political and strategical leader: Sachin K Chheda. Together, they dissect the role South Asians play in local, state, and national elections, and discuss the importance of more South Asians running for elections at every level and what needs to be done to prepare and encourage the South Asian youth to be more civically engaged. They also analyze 2022 midterms, and look ahead to the Wisconsin Supreme Court election this spring and the 2024 presidential election.
Governor Evers’ State of the State address came as Wisconsin sits at a particularly high fiscal point. According to the nonpartisan state agency that provides fiscal analysis to the state legislature, Wisconsin’s budget surplus has grown once again to over $7 billion dollars. That’s in addition to another $1.7 billion dollars in the state’s rainy day fund.
