The Wizards have thrived in these close encounters. They own the NBA's best record at 12-1 in clutch games with the score within five at any point in a game's final five minutes, even higher than the Phoenix Suns' 11-1 mark despite having a much better record than Washington.
Kyle Kuzma has been the definition of clutch in D.C. this season and been a huge part of their crunch time success. He's made dagger after dagger for them in various late-game affairs.
The win was sorely needed for a Wizards side that had been on a three-game losing streak and slowly losing their high spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Losing to a Pistons side that came in on a nine-game losing streak would have been catastrophic.
The Wizards now enter a crucial stretch in their schedule as they face a slate of Western Conference contenders that will look to challenge their status as a playoff team in the East.
