On the heels of signing Lucas Zelarayan and Eloy Room to contract extensions, the Columbus Crew announced Wednesday it has resigned midfielder Pedro Santos.
The Crew said it has resigned Santos for the 2022 season with an option for 2023.
Santos, a native of Lisbon, Portugal, is coming off his fifth season with the Crew and has made 126 regular-season appearances. In that time he has scored 22 goals and provided 29 assists.
“We are very excited to announce that we have re-signed Pedro for the 2022 season," Columbus Crew President & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko said. "Since joining the Crew, Pedro has been a loyal and dependable contributor to the Club, playing any role that has been asked of him to the best of his ability. His work ethic on the field serves as an example to his teammates, and the value he places on his relationship with our fans shows a deep understanding of the culture that we have created in Columbus.”
In the Crew's MLS Cup championship season in 2020, Santos had six goals and eight assists in the regular season. He added two more goals to his tally in the postseason.
In 2021, he had four goals and six assists in 32 appearances.
The Crew will kick off the 2022 season on February 26 at Lower.com Field against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
