In a Facebook post, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office alerted residents to “Tyson the Bison,” an American buffalo that escaped from her home in September. An accompanying photo shows the animal in the grass. The post warns residents not to try to capture the animal on their own.

The American buffalo, also called the American bison, is the national mammal of the United States and is the largest mammal in North America, with male bulls growing up to 2,000 pounds. According to the Department of the Interior, bison can run up to 35 miles per hour, jump high fences and swim.

The owners of the buffalo said they are hoping for snow so they can use the snowfall to track the animal and bring it safely back home, WMAQ reported.
