Tony Hale Will Play Two Characters in Hocus Pocus 2

It was announced earlier this year that actor Tony Hale would be joining the cast of the upcoming Hocus Pocus 2. Now, we know who he’ll be playing.

During a recent appearance at the premiere of Aaron Sorkin’s latest film Being the Ricardos, Hale was asked about the sequel. He then offered up some information on his role and revealed he would be playing two parts, before discussing how nice it was to meet the iconic cast of the film.

“Adam Shankman is a buddy of mine, and he kindly asked me to do it,” Hale said. “And I play the Mayor…I play, actually, two characters. I play this kind of evil reverend and then I play this mayor. You know, it’s great, another surreal experience, that movie is a Halloween classic. And meeting Bette [Midler], and Sarah Jessica [Parker], and Kathy Nijamy who was on Veep with me…it was really fun, I just finished.”

The original film was led by multi-award-winning actress Bette Midler (The Rose) and four-time Golden Globe winner Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City) along with Kathy Najimy (Sister Act). The film followed the story of a teenage boy, who accidentally brings a trio of villainous Salem witches back to life on Halloween night. Although Hocus Pocus wasn’t a critical and commercial success by the time of its release, it still stood the test of time through countless annual airings and has now become a cult classic film.

Beyond Midler, Parker, and Najimy reprising their roles, the sequel will also feature Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Doug Jones, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson, and Nina Kitchen.

Hocus Pocus 2 will be written by Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics), who was also tasked by Disney to create a way on how Midler, Parker, and Najimy could be able to reprise their roles as Winifred, Sarah, and Mary in the planned sequel Further details on the film’s plot and new characters are still being kept under wraps.
