The city of Baltimore is willing to offer fully vaccinated city employees $1,000, according to city officials.
The $1,000 will be delivered to municipal workers as a one-time payment.
Only those employees who are fully vaccinated before the Jan. 14, 2022, deadline are eligible, said Mayor Brandon Scott and City Administrator Christopher Shorter in a Tuesday statement.

“This incentive is about doing everything in our power to protect our employees and our residents,” Scott said. “We are still in a pandemic. People are still losing their lives and getting seriously ill because they are not vaccinated.”
Baltimore instituted a vaccine mandate for municipal employees in October.
Unvaccinated workers are required to submit to weekly testing or risk termination, according to the mandate.
As of Tuesday, city workers had a vaccination rate of 73.7%, according to Baltimore’s Department of Human Resources.

The $1,000 payments will be funded by Baltimore’s $641 million American Rescue Plan allocation, according to a report.
