Bays tip off boys basketball season with win

HARBOR SPRINGS — The Brimley Bays downed Harbor Light Christian 81-55 in a boys basketball season opener Tuesday night.

Perry LeBlanc scored 30 points to lead the Bays. Jacques LeBlanc III scored 12 points, while Caleb Lipponen added 11 points and Grady Newland had eight among 11 players to put points on the board for Brimley.

The Bays jumped out to a 23-16 lead in the first quarter and led 34-26 at the half.

“Both of our teams (varsity and JV) have been working really hard this year,” Brimley coach Jacques LeBlanc said. “Despite some first games nerves and excitement, we were able to settle in and play some good basketball. “

Perry and Jacques LeBlanc III, Newland and Lipponen all had five steals. Newland led the team in rebounds with nine, while LeBlanc III was the assists leader with seven.

David Chamberlin scored 17 points and Andrew Stahl had 14 points for Harbor Light. 

Brimley beat Harbor Light Christian 78-20 in the junior varsity game. Trey Lynn and Zac Innes paced the JV Bays with 24 and 22 points, respectivley. 

Brimley plays host to Pickford in an Eastern UP Conference opener on Thursday at the Karl Parker Gym.
