Canelo Alvarez Responds To Floyd Mayweather Saying He 'Cooked' Him And 'Was Nothing'

Canelo Alvarez Responds To Floyd Mayweather Saying He 'Cooked' Him And 'Was Nothing'

Floyd Mayweather unloaded on Canelo Alvarez, who he beat when the Mexican was 23.

Pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez has responded to Floyd Mayweather after 'Money' said their 2013 fight was "easy" and accused him of "pick and choosing" his fights.

50-0 Mayweather is the only fighter to beat Canelo professionally, claiming a majority decision victory in a clash contested at light middleweight.

But despite his triumph eight years ago, Mayweather has continued to talk about Canelo.

On Sunday, after his protege Gervonta Davis beat Isaac Cruz, Mayweather took aim at the Mexican boxer during a press conference, saying: "That mother f**ker easy, man. Cakewalk. Easy. Y’all sitting up here praising this dude. This dude was nothing."

Mayweather had also accused Canelo of "dodging" 24-year-old two-time WBC super middleweight champ David Benavidez and instead stepping up to cruiserweight in an attempt to become a five-weight world champion.

Canelo hasn't responded directly, but he retweeted a post from a fan stating why Mayweather is "so salty and bitter".

"This is why Floyd is so jealous of @Canelo and so salty and bitter," @mmaballer13 tweeted.

"Canelo at ONLY 31 is already surpassing Floyd's ENTIRE career.

"Where was Floyd at 31? At 31 he was no where near where Canelo is at right now!

"By the time Canelo is done, Canelo WILL BE FAR AHEAD of Floyd."

The post contained a document comparing the records and accomplishments of the two fighters, including championships and belts won, champions and former champions faced and more.

Mayweather, who won 26 consecutive bouts in world title fights, is still leading in a fair few categories but the fan was quick to point out that Canelo has age on his side.

57-1-2 in his career, Canelo put Caleb Plant away in his last fight to become the first ever undisputed super middleweight champion.

Having already been a world champion at light heavyweight, he is now expected to challenge Congolese fighter Ilunga Makabu at 190 pounds In May 2022 as he looks to make even more history.

Eddie Hearn believes Canelo would even have the capacity to step up to heavyweight.
