Hate leaving your fur child behind when you travel? Struggling to find someone you trust to keep them safe and happy while you’re away? Well, Humphrey’s is the solution all Bham dog owners have been looking for. ❤️🐶

Founded by dog lovers, for dog lovers ❤️

Meet the resort’s namesake, Humphrey. This 200-pound rescue Saint Bernard was Luke Wood’s trusted confidant and lovable companion for nearly six years.

As any dog lover would understand, leaving your best friend behind can be incredibly stressful. Luke found himself cancelling plans, avoiding travel and even driving hours to relatives’ houses where he knew Humphrey would be treated like a member of the family.

Tragically, Humphrey was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. That’s when Luke learned that his previous difficulties finding reliable pet boarding were just the tip of the iceberg. When he realized there were no local options for pets with specialized medical needs, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

The new resort will be “The Four Seasons for four-legged guests,” that’s right—not dogs, guests. The suites will be equipped with orthopedic mattresses (complete with headboards), room service, TVs and plenty of room to play. TBH, I might have to check in for a weekend stay myself.

There won’t be a cage in sight, which will help dogs to feel more at ease. And, true to the resort’s namesake, dogs of all sizes and breeds are welcome, with special accommodations for medical needs, too.

Specialized training and amenities 🐕

Because ALL dogs are welcome at Humphrey’s, they recognize that a one-size-fits-all approach would not be effective.

Have a German Shepherd that needs enrichment training? Does your Dachshund prefer humans to other dogs? Got a Pit that has next-level zoomies? Even if your companion has been sent home from other doggy daycares or boarding facilities, the team is ready to meet all dogs’ needs, and treat them just like you would at home.

President Joanna Garcia shared their plans for specialized suites, outdoor obstacle courses, fetch and 1:1 playtime. It’s safe to say they’ve got you (and your fur baby) covered.

“We have evolved so much in the care of of our pets—they are our family members. Standard boarding with a concrete kennel and a chain link is not enough anymore. They need more than food, water and being let out twice a day. That’s why so many people don’t feel comfortable leaving their dogs. So, we’re creating a resort that is an experience customized to each of their individual needs.”

I’m sad to share that Mr. Humphrey recently passed away. His birthday was on Valentine’s Day, and the team plans to honor him with their opening date. I can’t think of a better heavenly birthday party!

That means Humphrey’s will be open just in time for your Spring Break 2022 travels. It will be located in the Lakeview district. Be sure to keep an eye on their Facebook and Instagram for opening updates.

“Although Humphrey won’t be able to enjoy it, I’ve come to realize that everyone has a Humphrey of their own. We’re excited to bring this resource to the Birmingham area, and know that his legacy will live on with plenty of tail wags, treats and wet kisses.”
