LIVONIA, MI - His wife asked him to decorate their home for Christmas and he ended up on a mission to make Clark Griswold proud. Located at 29718 Robert Drive in Livonia, this is known as the “Bazillion Lights” house.

Homeowner Gary Slater has been decorating his home like this since 1998. It’s covered from top to bottom in lights. We’re talking every inch of it. Even the grass.

On top of that, Slater has the lights choreographed to music. Just tune into 88.5 FM from your vehicle and watch the show which starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until around 9:30 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays and about an hour later on the weekend through the month of December.

“I transmit from the house. My computer runs the whole thing,” Slater told MLive. “There’s about 45,000 lights. It’s the roof, bricks, grass. Everything.”

Slater, who works as a control engineer, says his month of December electric bill skyrockets by about $250.

“Right now, we’re drawing 150 amps peak when all the lights are on. It’s computer-controlled, so they’re not all on at once the entire time.”

Slater says he starts putting the lights up the second week of November and about 80 hours later, he’s finished so he can start entertaining people from December 1st through New Year’s Eve.

“After all of that, it takes about 25 hours to take down. I store everything in the garage.”

This home is also decked-out for Halloween. Slater says he spends about 20 hours putting up a huge display for one night only on Halloween night, complete with flames.

“It’s choreographed to music. The bushes are pumpkins which have faces on them and they are singing to music. I have a stand that’s 8-feet tall which is propane driven and shoots flames out on cue with the music.”
