Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - You may have heard the rumble of plows overnight as road crews clear away a quick burst of snow across the Buffalo metro area that was just enough of a reminder to Western New Yorkers of what's to come.
A blanket of snow accumulating 2 to 4 inches is reported across the region since Tuesday afternoon and was a factor in numerous accidents that brought the Tuesday afternoon commute to a crawl in spots.
Meteorologist Bob Hamilton at the Buffalo office of the National Weather Service says the snow is moving away from the area but motorists will be greeted with snow covered cars, driveways and walkways Wednesday morning.
"There'll be a several hour break, then we'll get into another round of snow later in the day and afternoon. We could pick up another half, to at most an inch, this afternoon."
Plows have cleared the snow and roadways should clear quickly with traffic for the morning commute.
The good news for Western New York is that the bust of cold and snow will be followed up by a wave of warm air late in the week and Saturday, says Hamilton. Temperatures Saturday are forecast in the 60's for much of the region, perhaps even warmer in the southern tier.
"But whenever you get that warm this time of year, you're going to have to pay for it and it looks like on the back side of that system we're going to get into another 'wind event'.
Stay tuned!
