Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Mocks Lauren Boebert Over Christmas Gun Photo

Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made fun of a photo posted on Twitter by Lauren Boebert which shows the Republican congresswoman's family holding guns by a Christmas tree.

Colorado Representative Boebert, who is a renowned gun rights advocate, posted the picture of her four children holding what appear to be assault rifles, with the message, "The Boeberts have your six,@RepThomasMassie!" and added, "no spare ammo for you though."

This was in apparent support of Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), a fellow Second Amendment advocate who tweeted a similar image on December 4 in which the congressman is seen with his family, all holding guns.

His tweet asked Santa Claus to "please bring ammo," which spurred a retweet from Boebert and her message that it was "[her] kind of Christmas card!"

Boebert's tweet sparked criticism on social media by those who said it was insensitive in the aftermath of the Oxford High School shooting that killed four students and injured seven others.

But Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, for New York, took a more satirical approach in her swipe at Boebert, tweeting, "tell me again where Christ said 'use the commemoration of my birth to flex violent weapons for personal political gain?'"

"lol @ all the years Republicans spent on cultural hysteria of society 'erasing Christmas and it's meaning' when they're doing that fine all on their own," she added in the tweet which as of Wednesday morning had been liked nearly 50,000 times..

In a follow up message, the New York progressive wrote, "When you pose in front of a Christmas Tree and can name all those guns but can't name the gifts of the Wise Men."

Ocasio-Cortez's comments form the latest criticism of Boebert's family photo.

The liberal PAC MeidasTouch tweeted that it would not post the "deranged" image of Boebert and her children "holding weapons of war."

It listed the teenagers killed at Oxford, tweeting, "instead, let's honor the teens who were murdered due to this fetishization of guns."

Gun violence prevention activist, Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, tweeted: "This is a tragedy waiting to happen, and we should all be concerned for the Boebert kids.

"This photo is exactly why we must keep fighting for stronger gun laws," she added.

Democratic congressional candidate for California, Bruno Amato, tweeted, "I heard four young kids were gunned down this week, so here is a photo of my kids with their guns just to say f*ck you to their memories. Sincerely, Lauren Boebert.

Ocasio-Cortez is among lawmakers who have called Boebert to be stripped of her committee assignments.

It follows anti-Muslim comments Boebert made directed at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) whom she has described as a member of the "jihad squad."

Newsweek has contacted Boebert for comment.
