Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth says that the public’s enthusiasm for him as the MCU’s God of Thunder might be waining.

Chris Hemsworth made his debut as the God of Thunder in 2011’s Thor. Since then, Hemsworth has appeared as the character over half a dozen times throughout various Marvel projects. Now, the star is set to return as a solo act in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, the first solo Marvel sub-franchise to hit four films. Hemsworth has portrayed the character for over a decade, but it looks like he might want to call it quits in the future if enthusiasm from the fans isn’t as strong.

In a recent chat with The Today Show in his native Australia, the God of Thunder was asked if he’ll sign on for another trilogy of films like Spider-Man star Tom Holland. Chris Hemsworth revealed that he’s interested in starring in the role as long as fans want him to, but he expressed his concerns that enthusiasm for him as Marvel’s God of Thunder is coming to a close.

“How many Spider-Mans has he done? He’s a little behind me. I think he’s done three. I’ve done six or seven Thors, so maybe. As long as they’ll have me, I’ll turn up, but I feel like that enthusiasm [for me] might be waning.”

The Australian hosts objected at the thought of Chris Hemsworth departing the role. The star then playfully joked that international fans might want him replaced.

“Internationally, they may be going, ‘Get rid of him! Get someone else!'”

Chris Hemsworth is set to return as Thor in the MCU’s Love and Thunder, which will also see Jane Foster becoming the next God of Thunder. With Foster now becoming Mighty Thor, it’s possible that Hemsworth’s future with the Marvel franchise could wrap up.

Directed by Taika Waititi from a script he co-wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn and Jeff Goldblum. Matt Damon, Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth, Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone, and Russell Crowe are also on board.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released on July 8, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming Marvel film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
