The proletariat has spoken.
The 47th annual People’s Choice Awards were handed out Tuesday night during a live ceremony from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. Heading into the Kenan Thompson-hosted simulcast, which aired on NBC and E!, NBC’s This Is Us led the small-screen pack with six nominations across five categories. Other multi-nominated shows included ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, Disney+’s Loki and WandaVision, NBC’s Law & Order: SVU and Netflix’s recently renewed Outer Banks — all with four nods apiece.
First-time contenders included CBS’ The Equalizer; The CW’s Superman and Lois; Disney+’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as well as the above-mentioned Loki and WandaVision; HBO’s Mare of Easttown and White Lotus; NBC’s Young Rock; and Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, Squid Game and The Upshaws.
In addition to TV accolades, the 47th annual event doled out honorary trophies to Christina Aguilera (recipient of the inaugural Music Icon Award), Halle Berry (the People’s Icon Award), Kim Kardashian (the Fashion Icon Award) and Dwayne Johnson (the People’s Champion Award). Featured performers included Aguilera, Blake Shelton and H.E.R.

I think these awards are bought & paid for by the show & people’s management team. Selena Gomez wins a comedy award?? I’m watching the show now & she isn’t that funny. And Grey’s Anatomy & Ellen Pompeo win awards?? What a joke! Last season was their absolute worst with the whole Covid storyline & Ellen has become completely unnecessary on the show not to mention she was in a hospital bed almost all of last season. Her winning an award is a joke! If you’re going to give someone an award from that show give it to Richard, Bailey, or Jo. For some reason Ellen thinks she is the only person who matters on that shows. She’s become super arrogant.
A major flaw of the People’s Choice Awards (and any other award list that relies on number of votes submitted without regard to number of voters) is that they are easily skewed and manipulated. A small % of voting population can easily drive a particular candidate to the top over the majority of voters by use of votebots and 24/7 voting by obsessive fans. Complaints calling for People’s Choice to limit abuses have been going on for over a decade, but they never act on it.
The show is past its prime. Time to retire it.
I agree with the Selena comment….This is Us SHOULD have won SOMETHING for Gods sake. I dont think Ellen is arrogant…I think the show has run its course and they are beating a dead horse UNLESS they can get some people who can act and MUCH better writers…hasnt been the same since Shonda stepped away. Blake’s song was not one of his best…..and so on….ugh
I love Selena and the show but her expressions, acting and voice the entire show was like watching a brick wall or paint drying. lol
I agree. There were others more deserving, but I think most of the people voting for this are young.
I thought her voice was annoying and she was very wooden.
Luciana: e tutto pilotato Greys Anatomy troppo noiosa non doveva vincere. Ellen Pompeo sempre uguale a se stessa. Noiosa e super arrogante.ci sono altri di Greys più bravi.
So happy for Greys and Ellen Pompeo. Love those two although Meredith was in a bed for the most of last season so that is kind of strange she won lol.
As for the Ellen Show, that surprises me. Especially with all thats come to light about it. People just seem to forget. I haven’t watched for ages now.
How could Ellen Pompeo beat out Mariska Hargitay and Queen Latifah? And how could Ellen’s show beat the View?
How can TV Line even report on this “awards” show? It has to be the biggest joke in Hollywood. Who votes here – 14 year old girls? No offense against 14 year old girls intended, but the “winners” here are ludicrous.
Fake. Not real. Alternate universe.
It might be time to retire/dissolve the tv awards show categories of “comedy” and “drama”… The shows that are hardest to categorize get shoehorned into ill-fitting categories like “sci/fantasy” or are ignored altogether. But the qualities that make them unique and hard to categorize are what make them some of the best shows on tv.
Surely at this point we can come up with a better way to categorize shows like Ted Lasso and Only Murders, and give sitcoms their own category. And how about a procedural or doctor/lawyer/first responder category? Or a category to recognize a dramatic performance in a “comedy”?
What “people” voted for these?? I don’t think there’s one category I agree with here. Grey’s Anatomy??? What is this 2010??
Glad I taped it only watched one of the shows that won. The Voice and it’s getting old. Where do they get these people that vote ??? Evidently they don’t watch good tv. Very very disappointed in people but that’s the society we live in now. Sorry Jesus
No one has taken THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS seriously for…checks notes…YEARS!
Yay for Lucifer! Are the Kartrashians still popular?
KUWTK is off the air. Ellen is going off the air. Greys anatomy? Really? What is this 2006?
I suspect people voted for Lucifer over Loki in the SF/F category because it ended this year. Loki still won for top show. It seems fans forgot about Wandavision.
Well, I can see that the juries are mostly some middle aged woman who have not being touched for years. Terrible choices of winners.
Who are these “People” and why are their choices so flawed?
Re: Selena Gomez, I liked her in OMITB, but her comedic chops worked best with Short & Martin. She wasn’t that good on her own.
Could they have at LEAST gotten fairly well know MALE artist to sing Marvin Gayes songs MUCH closer to how he sang them for goodness sake!!
