Shirley Joan was born July 27, 193,5 in Truman, Minn., to Frederick “Fred” and Margaret Grace (Malmanger) Mausling. She graduated from Truman High School in 1953, then began working at First National Bank of Minneapolis. Shirley celebrated New Year’s Eve in 1958 by marrying the love of her life, Marland “Dick” Meyer, (officially their wedding date is Jan. 1, 1959) after that the two set out for their life’s adventure together in California. There, she began working for IBM as a data processor; she also worked for Lockheed Missile and Space Co. in Sunnyvale as a keypunch operator and instructor. Shirley and Dick traveled on 5 ocean cruises and two trips to Europe, Italy, Germany and Scandinavian countries. They loved to travel. They built their home in California “in the clouds” and had a splendid view, while their home in Sunlakes, Ariz. overlooked the golf course. Shirley loved dancing to old-time music in her young days. Later in life, she enjoyed line-dancing as well. Shirley loved to decorate for the holidays and her friends say that they loved to visit and enjoyed her vibrant personality as well as her hospitality. She belonged to the Red Hats Society in Sunlakes and in Mankato. She had many friends, as it was easy for her to make friends. She will be missed by all who loved her. Shirley was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. Shirley will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Dick Meyer of Mankato; brother, Raymond (Sandy) Mausling of San Jose, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Bell of San Jose, Calif. and Marvel Meyer of Fairmont, Minn.; brothers-in-law, Harley Bettin of Grand Rapids, Minn., and Jerry (Jeannie) Meyer of Loomis, Calif.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Mausling; sisters-in-law, Joan Bettin and Melanie Meyer; brother-in-law, Lorvin Meyer; and niece, Kristin Mausling Plummer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
