Ubisoft has created the Quartz NFT platform, which is extremely energy-efficient.

Ubisoft will begin Ghost Recon Breakpoint by distributing NFTs on the Tezos Blockchain to PC gamers. Ubisoft’s first entry to nonfungible tokens was made via Ubisoft Quartz. This platform will be available in beta alongside Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and Ubisoft Connect. According to Ubisoft’s website, Digits are the “first NFTs that can be used in Triple-A (AAA) games and run on energy-efficient technology.” Digital items, such as weaponry and in-game vehicles will be available for early adopters in limited editions. They’ll also be released in limited numbers and printed in Canada and the United States on December 9 and 12. Quartz will also be accessible to Australia, Brazil and Spain as well.

Ubisoft Quartz uses the proof-of-stake crypto Tezos to power its energy-efficient technology. Ubisoft’s blockchain technical director stated, in an interview posted on their website: “This type of blockchain technology gives the same results while using significantly less energy than proof–of-work protocols.” For example, 30 seconds of video streaming is equivalent to a Tezos transactions, while a transaction is equivalent to one year worth of video streaming. Ubisoft has already partnered with Ultra Distribution to utilize the UOS Blockchain for their titles.

Ubisoft ranks among the top 25 most important gaming businesses in the world with an estimated market valuation of about $5.8billion. Notable is also the fact that Ubisoft, a AAA gaming company, promotes blockchain technology while other companies like Valve have pulled blockchain games off their markets.
