Oklahoma football fans might get the chance to forever remember Lincoln Riley as one senator has a plan to honor the head coach who departed for USC.

For the past couple of weeks, more or less, Oklahoma football has been trying to pick up the pieces after Lincoln Riley unceremoniously accepted the USC job and left the Sooners program looking like a Who’s house post-Grinch visit.

Naturally, OU fans have not been happy. But one state senator has found the perfect way to honor the now-former Sooners head coach — or perhaps troll would be the better word.

A bill put forth in the Oklahoma State Senate by Republican Bill Coleman proposes naming a three-inch stretch of Highway 325 — the final bit of road heading west in the panhandle — would be renamed “Lincoln Riley Highway”.

Coleman hilariously says, “I found the tiniest section of our most desolate of highways to pay tribute to Coach Riley’s exit from Oklahoma football and the state.” He also added that it was “fitting” that this stretch was the last thing one sees before moving west out of the Sooner State.

Only in college football are you going to get something like this — which is why it’s the best sport on the planet.

It’s not been any secret that Oklahoma football fans have been less than pleased with the way that Riley exicted the Sooners program for USC so abruptly and, frankly, with little regard for tact. Thus, it’s not entirely surprising to see a war of pettiness continuing to brew.

With that said, the Sooners faithful should feel good about the fact that they recently landed Brent Venables to be the program’s next head coach. If nothing else, they should be in good hands moving forward after Riley’s untimely departure.
