The Avon Lake Board of Municipal Utilities and Avon Lake Regional Water is mourning the death of Board Member Randy Phillips, who passed away Dec. 5.

“I have worked alongside Randy Phillips on the board since 2006, and considered him a font of wisdom and legal savvy,” said John Dzwonczyk,
chairman of the Avon Lake Board of Municipal Utilities in a news release. “He leaves some very large shoes for the board to fill.

“My wife, Patrice, and I, along with the Board, extend our deepest sympathy to Randy’s wife, Cindy, and his mother, Mary, recently widow of Randy’s father, Robert.

“Cindy and Mary are both Avon Lake residents, and I hope the community will support them in this time of need.”

Phillips first was elected to the Board in 2006 and served from 2006 to 2015, the release said.

He returned to the Board in 2017 to complete the term of former Board member Rob Berner.

During his service, Phillips voted to authorize critical infrastructure improvements to Avon Lake Regional Water’s distribution and collection system, which greatly benefits all Avon Lake customers today, the release said.

In addition, his legal guidance helped Avon Lake Regional Water staff navigate through these improvements and general operation of the organization, the release said.

“Today’s news is a loss for our organization and the city of Avon Lake,” said Robert Munro, chief utilities executive of Avon Lake Regional Water in the release. “Randy greatly appreciated the opportunity to serve the Avon Lake community through his membership on the Board.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Phillips family during this difficult time.”

Arrangements and services will be announced at a later time by the family, the release said.
