A Pontiac woman involved in an incident where a man was reportedly lured to an apartment then beaten, robbed and had his fingers cut off has been ordered to serve 4-15 years in prison.

Oakland County Circuit Judge Shalina Kumar handed down the sentence Tuesday for Patricia Denean Osborn, 57, who pleaded guilty last month to unarmed robbery for the Sept. 20, 2020 attack on Mauricio Miller of Pontiac. In exchange for her plea, charges of armed robbery, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and being a habitual offender were dismissed

“I have a lot of remorse for what happened,” Osborn told the court Tuesday, prior to sentencing. “I did not hurt the man directly, but I apologized to him yesterday…I’m very sorry for what happened.”

Miller was reportedly attacked with a wrench and a knife, hit in the head multiple times and had four fingers severed at the Beacon Square Apartments and Townhomes on Mechanic Street, in what investigators believe was a set-up perpetrated by Osborn and two men, Henry Simms, 33, and Patrick Leak, 41. Simms and Leak are due back in court Dec. 14.

During a preliminary exam last February in 50th District Court, Oakland County Sheriff’s Det. Sean Burney said after the attack the apartment “looked like a murder scene from Freddy Krueger (with) blood on the walls, ceiling, floors — everywhere.”

Four of Miller’s fingers were severed. Three of them were recovered from the apartment soon afterward, and a fourth was found the next day in a grassy area a short distance away.

Burney further testified that an allegation had been made that Miller shot Leak the day before he was assaulted. Miller denied having met Leak prior to the attack, and testified that there was a dispute over money that Simms owed him, having borrowed it about a month prior.  During the attack, he said, Leak, Osborn and Simms rummaged through his pockets, which led to the three being charged with robbery.
