Former Kansas City Chiefs tight end Ross Travis has found a new home on the practice squad of the Cleveland Browns.

Travis first entered the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted in 2015 out of Penn State. As a former basketball player, he fits into the profile of several other prospects at the position who have shown up for the Chiefs, for better or worse, and to his credit, Travis was able to stick around longer than most people like ever would have projected.

Travis was with the Chiefs for the next two full seasons and more, all the way through October of the 2017 season when he was finally placed on waivers by the Chiefs in November, From there, a familiar face in Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard (formerly an executive with the Chiefs) claimed him and gave him a second team to call home, Travis would last another two-plus years in Indy as a backup tight end through the majority of the 2019 campaign.

Ross Travis has found a new team to call home with the Cleveland Browns.

Late in 2019, the New York Jets claimed him off of waivers from the Colts and kept him around for the following offseason until active rosters were due heading into 2020. From there, he was on and off the team’s practice squad and roster. This past year, he found some playing time with the Arizona Cardinals for three games before being released once again.

After having a chance with a literal handful of teams, the Browns now offer Travis a chance to catch on next season (as well as this year) on the team’s practice squad. A late-season signing for a team like this is often a path forward into a reserve/futures contract. Hopefully, Travis can get that with the Browns.

Travis has appeared in 28 NFL games over the course of several seasons with 14 catches for 142 yards to his credit.
