Nate Denby has shared his true identity with Martine Deveraux in Hollyoaks.

The big cliffhanger came at the end of Tuesday's (December 7) first-look episode, after he'd had a run-in with Felix Westwood over his snooping around the Deverauxs.

Nate is an undercover detective on his own mission to solve Lisa Loveday's murder, but is posing in the village as a businessman with a new stall in the marketplace.

The episode opened with the newlyweds just back from their honeymoon, with Felix keen for a worried Celeste to move because he was convinced Nate had come up with nothing in his investigation.

Nothing could be further from the truth, as Felix found his son DeMarcus skipping school to hang out with his new best mate Nate and spilling family history.

"These baseless accusations against my family need to stop now," Felix demanded, with Nate daring him: "Scared I'm getting too close?"

Nate stopped Felix in his tracks by asking him how Martine would feel if she found out he'd killed "her favourite niece" — in actuality, it was Toby who murdered Lisa.

Once Felix warned him to "leave the detective work to the police", Nate stunned him by showing his badge and revealing he is "the police".

"I've been working undercover but can't see the point in keeping up the pretence," Nate admitted.

Felix asked Nate to keep Martine out of his machinations, only for the detective to suggest he not leave the country because they'd be "catching up real soon". Felix let Celeste know what was going on, but ordered her not to tell Toby.

Later, after Grace Black encouraged Nate to "show Felix who he's dealing with", the detective confronted Martine at The Dog once her new husband had stepped out to take a call from Celeste.

Nate once again revealed he's a cop, then explained he's in the village to investigate a murder and would need to speak with her about it at the police station.

"No-one I know, I hope," Martine asked.

Will Nate reveal his investigation into the Deveraux family?
