Atletico Madrid are through to the Champions League round of 16 thanks to a win over Porto. Real Madrid won their group by beating Inter Milan as Matchday 6 action got underway on Tuesday on Paramount+. There wasn't much up for grabs on the day with seven of the eight knockout stage spots at play in Tuesday's action already decided. Atletico needed a win in Porto to advance and got it done, overcoming Luis Suarez's early injury for an inflated 3-1 win. Real Madrid, meanwhile, looked sharp without the injured Karim Benzema, besting Inter once again, winning 2-0 to finish top of their group.

Atletico Madrid 3, Porto 1: This game had it all. With four goals, and three red cards, everything hung in the balance until the 90th minute. Atleti needed the victory and got the lead through a fortunate Antoine Griezmann rebound in the 56th minute:
But, thanks to AC Milan losing to Liverpool, Porto needed just the draw to top Atleti and advance as second place in the group. While their chances were always tough against a team focused on defending, it was expected to be made easier as Atleti were depleted at the back and had to even put defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia at centerback. A goal away, Porto were boosted when Yannick Carrasco was careless and aggressive, receiving a red card in the 67th minute. Porto could not remain composed though, losing Wendell just three minutes later after an elbow to Matheus Cunha, leaving the match at 10 against 10. Had they gotten those final 20 minutes with an extra man, chances are they would have had some decent opportunities to equalize, but a bonehead move at the worst possible time put them in a tough position they just couldn't escape.

Marco Asensio, Real Madrid: Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Inter saw them slam the door shut in the 79th minute with a magnificent finish from the Spanish international. At the corner of the box, he took a touch toward the top and delivered a brilliant strike to the back post that hit the frame of the goal and went in. Take a look:
Bonehead moment of the day
Nicolo Barella, Inter Milan: This could have gone to a bevy of people in that Atleti-Porto game, but we'll give it to the Italian international for losing his cool and costing his team a shot at winning the group against Real Madrid. After getting a shove with the shoulder from Eder Militao, one that saw him crash into the advertisement board, Barella lost his cool and tried to seemingly punch the Brazilian in the leg. VAR looked at it, and it was nothing but a clear-cut red card for Barella. Now, it's not to say Inter would have come back, but they wanted to win the group and lost any chance of doing so when this occurred with 26 minutes to play.
Top performer
Sebastien Haller, Ajax: How could it not be the French forward? He's scored in every UCL group stage game, something only Cristiano Ronaldo had done prior to this season. This campaign, his debut ride in the UCL, saw him score 10 times. For those counting, he's nearly scored more goals in this group stage than he did across a season-and-a-half at West Ham (14).

Hurting your team in a game that meant nothing award
Manchester City didn't have anything to gain from the 2-1 loss to RB Leipzig on Tuesday having already won the group. But they had plenty to lose. So, of course, a mistake puts them in a tricky situation in the round of 16. They'll be without their starting right back Kyle Walker after his ludicrous challenge on Andre Silva, hacking the Portuguese striker from behind. It was a clear red, and Pep Guardiola will be furious at Walker's lack of composure, while also dealing with the headache of replacing him for at least the first leg of the round of 16.
