Chris Cuomo looking to sue CNN for remainder of contract money: Report

.

Chris Cuomo is reportedly preparing to sue former employer CNN for the $18 million remainder of his contract money.

Anonymous sources told the New York Post that the former prime-time anchor, who was fired last week for his involvement in his brother New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s sexual harassment scandal, is putting together a legal team to sue for money he would have earned during the remaining three years of his contract.

However, CNN insiders said a payout is unlikely.

“If he gets a settlement, there would be uproar,” one told the New York Post. Another said CNN contracts include a standard morality clause allowing the company to terminate employees if they “do anything of disrepute.”

The four-year contract Cuomo signed last year purportedly pays $6 million annually, leaving between $18 million to $20 million on the table. The source also said Cuomo would seek damages for the termination.

After the network fired Cuomo on Saturday, new allegations of sexual misconduct against him emerged, though it’s unclear if this is what tipped CNN to terminate him. Cuomo was initially suspended after information came to light about him advising his brother through the scandal that led to his resignation as governor while reporting on the story as a journalist.
