Role confusion as Jonas Kaufmann replaces Eyvazov
NewsYusif Eyvazov, Anna Netrebko’s husband, was supposed to take over from Jonas Kaufmann in the Naples run of Otello from tonight.
He has pulled out, it appears.
Gregory Kunde will sing tonight, and Kaufmann will cover the last two performances, even though it means cancelling his Munich Christmas concert on December 14.
According to the organizers, the Munich Christmas concert has been postponed until December 2022.

In München there is only 1/4 audience possible and so the conzert was postponed by the organizer. Kaufmann was free after that and could jump in for 10. and 14. December……

No, cancellation due to the orders of the Bavarian Government could be awaited. I had a ticket for München; will keep it for 2022.
I think the confusion started with casting YE as Otello, a tenor, a singer, whatever.
Kunde’s a class-act, and Kaufmann is Kaufmann. In either case, each one is a major upgrade over Eyvasov [redacted].
I like Kaufmann but would choose Kunde as Otello every time. He delivers the heft at all the key moments where Kaufmann has to hold back to protect his voice.
Munich was postponed because of regulations in place until the 15th. The concert would have been on the 14 th. Not as you suggest JK cancelling. You are being disingenuous.
Eyvazov as Otello??? Does he have a vocal death wish?
Perhaps he could follow his wife’s missteps and injure a shoulder or something. After all, it got her out of her role debut as the voice-killing Abigaille in “Nabucco” in Wien last month.
He debuted the role in 2013 in Ravenna.

What role confusion? People sub all the time, and Kaufman was already singing the role — he has just added a couple of performances (for which relief, those who could only get tickets for Eyvazov must be thinking) much thanks.
it seems his RAH xmas in London on Dec 16th will also be cancelled by the authorities
Next year his label is going to release an overextended ”Its Xmas ” edition in order to make up for all the extended Corona mess.
