Constance Towers Returns to GENERAL HOSPITAL (REPORT)
With the Cassadine family regaining prominence, it’s the perfect time for Constance Towers to return to GENERAL HOSPITAL as Helena! “Good news for fans of Helena Cassadine,” reported a Facebook page for the actress. “Constance Towers will be taping in December for an upcoming episode of GH. We will post the airdate when we have more details.”
Given that the post specifically says “episode” likely means that Helena will be back for some flashback scenes, and not returning from the dead for a full-time return. Although the post did suggest that fans who wanted to see more of Towers as the villainess should contact the GH comment line at 323-671-4583 and leave a message or tweet to the soap’s executive producer Frank Valentini to let him know they want Helena back for more. “Ms. Towers would love for this to go viral,” the post said. “Hopefully, the more ABC studio execs hear from fans, the more likely they will be to keep her in mind for upcoming storylines.”
The character of Helena Cassadine was introduced back in 1981 when GH fan Elizabeth Taylor made a guest appearance on the soap as part of Luke and Laura’s iconic wedding. In 1996, the role was recast for a few episodes with Dimitra Arliss, but in 1997, the Cassadine matriarch returned in full force when Towers took over. She was a regular presence on the soap until 2002 and continued to make sporadic returns to cause more trouble in Port Charles until the character was killed off in 2013.
However, Towers continued to reprise her role periodically, appearing in dreams and flashbacks in the years that followed. The last time she appeared on screen was back in February 2020 when she appeared as a vision to Valentin when he learned he wasn’t a true Cassadine after all.
And with Valentin having learned that he is Victor and Helena’s child, it would be the perfect time for a flashback to fill in some blanks and answer some of the questions he has about his past. Of course, Cassadines are notoriously hard to kill (Victor himself was also believed dead until just recently!), so who knows if Helena might not make another return from the grave? She’s done it before! Unfortunately, there has been no official confirmation yet regarding Towers’ return to GH so you’ll just have to stay tuned to see how it all plays out!
