Who Is Jennie Kim? Why BTS and Blackpink Fans Are Going Crazy Over Instagram Follow

K-pop fans were thrown into a social media frenzy after BTS member V appeared to follow Jennie Kim from Blackpink on Instagram.

According to screengrabs of V's Instagram account (@thv) shared on Twitter, @jennierubyjane (Jennie's official Instagram handle) was briefly listed among the eight accounts followed by V.

BTS members recently each opened individual Instagram accounts following the announcement of an extended break from work.

V may have been a victim of Instagram's "recommended" account list prompt and accidentally followed the Blackpink member as a result.

Sharing a screenshot of Jennie's account name seen on V's Instagram listing, Twitter user @blckpnkz_27 wrote: "SORRY BUT KIM TAEHYUNG [V's full Korean name] MAYBE STALKING JENNIE AND ACCIDENTALLY CLICK THE FOLLOW BOTTON WHAAAAA." The post had over 31,000 likes at the time of reporting.

The BTS member reportedly shared a post on Weverse, the Korean mobile app and web platform where fans and artists interact, asking if there's any way to get rid of Instagram's recommendation feature.

According to screenshots shared by Twitter user @sculpturejay and Allkpop, V—whose official Weverse username is 주윤탄 (the Korean spelling for "Joo Yun-tan")—wrote in Korean on the platform: "Is there any way to get rid of Insta recommendations?...it's a scary app."

Following the brief rise to eight, the number of total accounts followed by V quickly dropped back down to seven (consisting of BTS' official account and the accounts of other BTS members).

Who Is Jennie Kim?

The singer/rapper from Blackpink was born in South Korea in 1996 but grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, before returning to South Korea during her high-school years. She was only 14 years old when she joined YG Entertainment in 2010 as a K-pop trainee.

Jennie is also a close friend of Squid Game star HoYeon Jung, who played contestant no. 067 in the runaway hit Netflix series.

The Blackpink member has been pictured with Jung in several selfies on Instagram, where she was seen visiting the set of Squid Game.

The Squid Game actress also shared a snapshot on Instagram of a coffee/snack truck Jennie had sent to the set of the series to show her support for Jung.

The pair's close friendship was also acknowledged by Squid Game's Lee Jung-jae (who plays contestant no. 456) in a previous interview for Netflix Korea.

Fans Go Crazy Over V's Instagram Follow

According to some Twitter users, some fans have been "hating" on Jennie after V's reportedly accidental following of the Blackpink member, supposedly enraged by potential dating rumors between the pair.

User @bp_25m posted: "Those toxic fans are imagining that they are the wife of V [crying laugh emojis] They hate jennie because V accidentally follows jennie and they can be only followed by V in their imaginations [crying laugh emoji]."

User @i_myoursunshine wrote: "Ya'll stop hating Jennie, like fr it was just an accident, V doesn't know how to use ig because he's new to it, ya'll stfu respect the both artist, and so what if an artist follows an artist? Ya'll overthink too much doesn't mean following someone it meant dating."

User @enenen_hypen wrote: "what's with this toxic people hating on Jennie just because Tae accidentally followed her? Like what the f*** is wrong wIth that? Even if V literally follows her, you guys should mind your own business. It's he's/their own account anyway. THIS STUPID PIPS."

User @lisayayayaeh: "You can't blame Jennie, she doesn't do anything while the person is silent, V is the one who follows Jennie so you should be angry with V.

"Respect Jennie, if you can't make Taehyung angry because he follows Jennie, you should be angry on Instagram. you commented on Jennie's post," the user added.
