As doors open for recruits in December, they also close. That is particularly true with the Alabama Football recruiting process for 2022. The issue will be the Alabama Crimson Tide will not have room for all the top players wanting to play football in Tuscaloosa. For the Alabama program, that is one of the prices for success.

An exact number of available slots in the ’22 class is not known. It is never a firm number until the end of the cycle. Making the numbers game an even bigger challenge is the overall number of scholarship players on the ’22 roster, with signees and new transfer additions.

Last year’s added transfers of Jameson Williams and Henry To’oTo’o are a big reason the Crimson Tide returns to the Playoffs this season.

Currently, the Alabama Football ’22 class has 20 verbal commits. Beginning on Dec. 15, those commits can become signees. There has been speculation the Tide could sign 26 or 27 this cycle, but that number is not confirmed. Overall roster counts will fluctuate from transfers out and in, plus NFL early-entry decisions. The old saying Nick Saban always makes the numbers work is true, but it clouds how difficult the task is for the program.

In the current group of 20 verbal commits are 10, Top 100 recruits based on the 247Sports Composite. In that group of 10, are 5-Stars, Jeremiah Alexander (No. 1 edge rusher); Ty Simpson (No. 3 QB), and Emmanuel Henderson (Ni. 1 RB). Currently, the Crimson Tide has the No. 2 class, with the highest average player rating.
