Slightly southeast of Denver on the Colorado Front Range, the West Bijou Creek meanders through a 7600 acres located on the K-T Boundary. According to the National Park Service the site "contains some of the most scientifically important evidence associated with the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) boundary [formerly known as the Cretaceous-Tertiary (K-T) boundary]. The K-Pg boundary at the West Bijou Site is unique due to its palynological extinction level, fern-spore spike, iridium anomaly and shocked quartz, Cretaceous and Paleogene (Tertiary) vertebrate fossils, magnetostratigraphy, and radiometric dating. Bisecting the site, West Bijou Creek, maintains a natural hydrologic pattern, flowing through a mosaic of upland and riparian shortgrass prairie plant communities, supporting a diversity of common and rare plant and wildlife species. West Bijou Site provides an excellent example of a valuable geologic resource located within a natural shortgrass prairie ecosystem."

Kevin Shema, 10, is very excited to talk about vegetables. “I like broccoli, tomatoes… Um, and apples and oranges.” Salad, too. “A lot,” he said, eyes widening. That’s the kind of enthusiasm for veggies that the urban gardening program at STEAM at Dr. King Elementary School is trying to foster in their young students. The gardening project has been going for six years, and this summer the kids are caring for a special kind of strawberry for a Cornell Cooperative Extension study.

U.S. News & World Report has released its list of best cities to retire in for 2023-2024, and Lancaster, PA takes the number one spot for the second year in a row. Harrisburg follows close behind at number two, with five cities in PA making the publisher's top ten. Florida cities only represent four of the top ten spots.
