DECEMBER 7, 2021 — Whether on Zoom or in classrooms, UTSA’s fall 2021 class has been through a college journey that often strayed far from “traditional.” On December 11, however, these 3,042 graduates will have the opportunity to walk across the stage at the Alamodome for what many consider the university’s traditional Commencement experience.
UTSA's Commencement ceremonies will return to the Alamodome for the first time in two years on Saturday. Graduates of the Carlos Alvarez College of Business, University College, College of Sciences, and College of Engineering and Integrated Design will walk the stage during the first ceremony at 10 a.m. Graduates of the College for Health, Community and Policy, College of Education and Human Development, and College of Liberal and Fine Arts will cross the stage at the second ceremony at 3 p.m.
Of those 3,000+ graduates in the fall 2021 class, 2,539 will be receiving their bachelor’s degrees, 454 will be obtaining master’s degrees, and 49 will be earning doctoral degrees this weekend. The following is a breakdown of fall 2021 graduates by each college.
Saturday's Commencement ceremonies will be the first held in the Alamodome since December 2019.
While Saturday will serve as the culmination of years of hard work for these graduates, the celebration will actually start on Friday with the Commencement Drive on the Main Campus. This nostalgic parade through campus will begin at 3:30 p.m., starting at the Brackenridge (BK5) parking lot adjacent to the Child Development Center. Graduates are encouraged to dress in their Commencement regalia and decorate their vehicles for this increasingly popular twice-a-year tradition that started in spring 2020.
Vehicles may begin gathering at 3 p.m. at the BK5 parking lot. From this starting point, participants will be led by the UTSA Police Department through the designated route. All revelers should join the parade from the starting point and limit themselves to one car per graduate.
Friends and family members of the graduates can watch the parade in designated viewing areas on campus at Brackenridge Ave. Lot 1, the Ximenes Ave. Lot and Bauerle Rd. Lot 3. Faculty and staff from nearly 30 campus departments and alumni will be wishing the graduates their congratulations along the route.
Those who aren’t able to celebrate at the Commencement Drive in person are encouraged to honk their horns at 3:30 p.m. wherever they are and share their videos on social media using the hashtag #UTSAGrad21 for a chance to be featured on UTSA’s social media channels.
The Commencement Drive will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Main Campus.
