Home opener for Dodgers on Tuesday

It will be a busy week for the Fort Dodge girls basketball team, with three contests on the docket while the Dodger boys will prepare for just one.

The FDSH girls (1-2 overall) host 11th-ranked Dowling (5-0) on Tuesday and No. 5 Des Moines Roosevelt (1-2) on Thursday. They will then turn around and travel to Ames (0-5) on Saturday.

The Dodger boys (0-2) will host the Maroons on Tuesday.

The Dowling contest on Tuesday will be a girl/boy doubleheader starting at 6:15 p.m. with the girls and the boys to follow.

The varsity girls’ contest against Roosevelt will begin at 7:45 p.m. and the Ames game is at 4 p.m.

The Dodgers are coming off a 72-40 road loss to Ankeny Centennial on Friday. Jalen Adams led the Dodgers with 17 points. Tory Bennett had eight points and seven assists, while Aleaha Pommer pulled down 11 rebounds.

Four Dodgers are averaging double figures, led by Paytene Hiveley (14.5). Pommer (12.7), Bennett (11.0) and Adams (10.7). Lainey Maehl is right behind at a 9.0-point clip.

The Maroons have won five straight to start the season. They recorded two victories over Minnesota schools during the Twin Cities Tip-Off Classic.

Freshman Ava Zedlker is scoring 16.6 points per contest. Senior Emma Gipple is averaging a double-double at 14.4 points and 14.6 rebounds.

The Roughriders lost to No. 1 Johnston (46-36) and Dowling (52-47). Junior Arianna Jackson (13.7), seniors Amaya Davison (11.7) and Ziaria Ewing (11.3), along with junior Ke’Ayla Madison (8.7) are the leading scorers for the rated Roughriders.

The Little Cyclones have dropped their first five decisions.

The Dodger boys are coming off a 79-46 loss to Ankeny Centennial on Friday. Javion Jondle led the way with 10 points. Bradley Vodraska had nine and Monterius Altman-Abrams contributed eight.

Jondle (10 points), Vodraska (9.0) and Altman-Abrams (8.0) are the leading scorers.

The Maroon boys lost 65-54 to Council Bluffs Lincoln last Friday. Junior Drew Mauro is Dowling’s leading scorer at 16.7 per game.

Senior Charlie Setwart (12.0) and Carson Brown (8.0) are the other top contributors for Dowling.
