Marc Bergevin has only been out of a job for about a week and it seems he’s already in the mix for a new gig.

According to Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News, the Canucks are “very interested” in Bergevin for the team’s vacant general manager position, which, of course, opened on Sunday night when Jim Benning was let go.

Bergevin’s Montreal Canadiens went on a shocking run to the Stanley Cup Final last spring but he was ultimately fired back on November 28 due to the team’s terrible start. The Habs kicked off 2021-22 with a five-game losing streak and boasted a 6-15-2 record when Bergevin was fired.

Bergevin’s time in Montreal was a rollercoaster in which the team would have a good season and a playoff run and then fell flat seemingly at random. It seems that you can describe Bergevin’s tenure as one that was all over the grid, as he made good moves but would always seem to have another terrible move that canceled it out.

All told, we have no idea how accurate Kennedy’s rumour is, but it’s difficult to see fans being excited about the possibility of bringing in Bergevin given how much of a mess the Montreal Canadiens are right now.

The Canucks are currently operating with a group front office that consists of Chris Gear, Ryan Johnson, Henrik and Daniel Sedin, and Stan Smyl.
