United Dairy will acquire Marietta plant

MARTINS FERRY — The Prairie Farms dairy company’s Marietta, Ohio, plant will soon come under the umbrella of United Dairy, the companies announced.

Prairie Farms has made the decision to discontinue operations at its Marietta plant, effective Dec. 31.

United Dairy has agreed to purchase Prairie Farms’ customer-related assets and plans on interviewing their current employees with the intention of servicing the customer base of Prairie Farms with minimal disruption starting the first week of January. United Dairy has been in the region for many years servicing grocery stores, schools and institutions with high quality United Dairy products.

United Dairy will also continue to offer long time local brands such as the Broughton Dairy label.

“We at United Dairy look forward to this opportunity to partner with the local communities in the region and are committed to high quality service for years to come,” the company said. “We would like to thank everyone for their patience during this transition.”
